Hi, I’m Emma!

I’m 10 years old and a proud member of the Templeton 4-H Club. This is my second year showing lambs, and let me tell you - it’s been a wild and wonderful ride!

Last year, I raised one lamb and showed at the Salinas Valley Fair. I loved it so much that this year I decided to go even bigger. I’m now raising three lambs - one for Salinas Fair, one for Mid-State, and (drumroll please…) a breeding ewe! I told my parents I wanted to try it, and while they didn’t exactly say “no,” they definitely gave me the are-you-sure-about-this look. But I want to be a veterinarian when I grow up, so this felt like the perfect next step.

Let me introduce you to my flock:

• Peanut - A black-faced Hampshire Cross wether who was silly, sweet, and so full of personality.

• Coconut – A gentle Dorset ewe with the cutest little nose.

• Ember – My Natural Colored Breeding Ewe, and my newest adventure!

We just wrapped up the Salinas Valley Fair and wow—it was tough! I showed all three lambs, and it was my first time competing in the Novice Class, which meant stepping it up and learning from some of the best showmen around. I worked so hard, and I truly feel like I showed better than ever before. Saying goodbye to Peanut was really hard, but I know I gave him the best life possible, and that makes me proud.

Right now, I’m focused on getting Coconut and Ember ready for the Mid-State Fair—and we’re just getting started!

I live in Atascadero on our cozy little family farm, surrounded by my dogs, cats, goats, and a LOT of chickens (yes, I’ve named every single one of them). When I’m not working with my lambs, you’ll probably find me:

• Running up and down a soccer field

• Playing piano (Beethoven and Taylor Swift, thank you very much!)

• Practicing archery

• Digging in the dirt with my school’s garden club
